Mission and Priorities
Our Mission
- To govern and enhance the sport of basketball in England.
- To encourage and enable people to participate in basketball regardless of their ability, age, gender, status, disability or ethnic background.
- To lift the performance and quality of basketball throughout England.
Priorities
- To increase participation as measured by:
- Sport England's Active People Survey for people aged 16 and older.
- England Basketball's affiliated participant numbers.
- To increase the amount of regular, preferably weekly, playing opportunities for people of all ages, especially those aged 16 and older.
- To increase England Basketball activity in the education sector (primary, secondary and tertiary) by growing the number of weekly competitions, introducing new formats and developing talent.
- To increase the number and improve the quality of SSP / School-Club links.
- To increase the number of Sport England - England Basketball Clubmark accredited clubs while improving satisfaction levels and growing participation.
- To increase the number of specialist basketball facilities and continue to work towards clubs and players obtaining access to affordable, or free, basketball facilities.
- To increase the number of County Basketball Development Officers employed by County Sports Partnerships.
- To increase the number and quality of registered coaches and officials.
- To develop and enhance an environment that encourages, supports, recognises and rewards the volunteers aligned to affiliated clubs, associations, leagues and regions.
- To improve the national competition structure while promoting the participant pathway, developing talent and enhancing the performance of national teams, and incorporating the philosophy of long term athlete development.
